The WHO and CDC recommend washing your hands correctly and frequently. It is our first line of defense and the best way to prevent the spread of any illness. If a sink isn’t close by, we use DIY hand sanitizer.
I prefer using DIY hand sanitizer because I know exactly ingredients are in the bottle. They also smell really good! Since we use essential oils often, we keep several on hand. I also love that after multiple uses, my hands don’t dry out, crack, or begin to hurt. Certain essential oils naturally inhibit the growth of bacteria, viruses, mold, and fungi and mix well with moisturizing ingredients, so making my own DIY hand sanitizer just makes sense. Remember, essential oils are highly concentrated so be sure to choose ones that are safe for use around children if you have any.
Given that hand sanitizer has been missing on store shelves across the country for the last couple of weeks, I have compiled a list of DIY hand sanitizer recipes for you to try during the COVID-19 pandemic.
